These “slightly sophisticated” individuals can make just about anything good or right. Using the right words, that hold a bit of truth and slightly tweaked, and be very persuasive.

As Skrewtape says if he is not well versed in recognizing the temptations of the world he would see this interaction as harmless and thereby be able to convince himself that he is not necessarily leading a double life but simply enjoying the company of these people. Once this is allowed to happen it would be much easier for Woodworn to encourage a bias toward the world and away from Christ. He won’t even recognize it is happening

The temptation to fit into an ideal one that is not who you are send you far from who Christ has designed you to be. “All mortals tend to turn into the thing they are pretending to be”, that is troubling insight from Screwtape. I have often said it this way, “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future”.

Faith is hard, because it’s believing in something you don’t see physically. With that said, the enemy uses people to deceive us and keep us distracted. “All mortals turn into the thing they’re pretending to be…..This is elementary…” What a scary and accurate statement.
